Christopher and Peter Pyemont are retired schoolmasters from Sussex who, over the last few years, have given well-received presentations at County Grounds, cricket societies and cricket clubs of “The History of the Ashes”.
The brothers will give a Powerpoint presentation which will also include Ashes’ artefacts such as a replica of the urn, photos, pictures, bats and balls. They will cover the origins of cricket along with the so-called Golden Age from 1890-1914, the beginnings of the England v Australia fixture from 1877 and how the Ashes came into being in 1882 – W.G. Grace is a central character.
We will hear about many of the great deeds of Ashes’ combatants such as Grace, Spofforth, Trumper, Hobbs, Noble, Hammond, Bradman, Larwood, Hutton, Lindwall and Miller, Tyson, Laker, Compton, Trueman, Lillee and Thompson, Greg Chappell, Boycott, Snow, Botham, Border, Steve Waugh, Warne, McGrath etc.
Famous Ashes’ series will be covered including the Bodyline series, “Botham’s Ashes” and the enthralling 2005 series starring Freddie Flintoff.
This promises to be a very entertaining, fascinating and informative trip down memory lane where we will hear about many of the stirring deeds from cricket’s most famous and enduring rivalry.
