Mickey Arthur, highly respected international cricket coach, former South African cricketer, and accomplished commentator, both enthralled and entertained CCS members at our February meeting.
Mickey Arthur delivered insights that revealed previously unknown aspects of recent South African—and indeed global—cricket. His engaging and genial manner, coupled with his obvious pleasure at the opportunity to address the Society, made for a superbly memorable and rewarding evening, rich with opinion and information to savour. The many attributes and skills of such an accomplished coach and mentor were amply on display, delighting all present in what proved to be one of the highlights of the Society season.
Despite the temporary power outage (first time ever in CCS history!!) that plunged the Victory Club—and other parts of Cheltenham—into temporary darkness, Mickey, the consummate professional, continued his presentation and Q&A without interruption. Thank you to our attentive and appreciative membership who remained calm and unflustered. Ensuring that on this occasion “bad light” did not stop play nor detract from an excellent evening.

Next Meeting: 04 Mar 2026 – A GCCC Panel
Our guests will be; Peter Matthews (GCCC Executive Board Chair), Jon Lewis (GCCC Director of Cricket) and homegrown seamer Craig Miles who recently re-signed for Gloucestershire on a three-year deal starting 1 November 2025.
Doors at the Victory Club will open at 19:00 and the panel session will commence at 19.30.
Please note: Members Guests spaces are not available for this or the final Geoff Miller speaker event in April. Please DO NOT bring a guest with you unless you have had prior formal confirmation from our Membership Secretary Roy Taylor.

Tim Curtis 07 Jan 2026
A very pleasing turn out of members on a cold January evening event was rewarded by the well prepared and genial Tim Curtis who covered his fine career in his own education, his wealth of cricket experiences and the many references to memorable players whom he’d known through his years with Worcestershire, along with a number of telling opinions and insights about the game and on personnel .
His modesty and warmth gave a particular flavour to his talk, with a compelling and polished delivery style which captured the attention of the audience throughout. Members and listeners were surely impressed by his honest and relevant responses to questions posed in part II of the evening, with keynote brief answers characterising his replies when appropriate – a feature which is always appreciated by audiences !
It was a real pleasure to have Tim with us for the evening, wherein from the dinner with the CCS Committee and guest Rick Rutter to the Vote of Thanks time he obviously enjoyed the opportunities to associate with cricket enthusiasts.

Welcome
Cheltenham Cricket Society (CCS) was founded in 1983 to promote meetings with guest speakers and other activities of interest for like minded cricket lovers in the Cheltenham and surrounding areas.
About Us
Cheltenham Cricket Society is one of around 30 cricket societies affiliated to the Cricket Societies’ Association.
6 or 7 Guest speaker meetings are arranged for each season running from October through to April for the benefit of members. The meetings are held on the evening of the first Wednesday of the month starting at 7:30pm with doors opening at 7:00pm. The Victory Club in Cheltenham has been the host venue since 2001.
A “Summer Special” is often arranged. The most recent one was an evening with David Gower in August 2023.
