***October 2026 Season Update***
Chris Cowdrey 07 Oct 2026
The official 2026/27 Cheltenham Cricket Society season got off to a flying start by welcoming back former Kent and England captain Chris Cowdrey, almost 25 years after his last CCS appearance.
A consummate storyteller, Chris entertained members with a fascinating mixture of cricketing memories, personal anecdotes and reflections on growing up as the son of England legend Lord Colin Cowdrey. He spoke candidly about the opportunities and pressures that came with the famous Cowdrey name, while recalling his experiences alongside and against some of the greatest players of his generation.
Chris also shared his thoughts on the modern game, including franchise cricket, The Hundred and the future of England cricket.
Warm, engaging and refreshingly honest, Chris proved once again what a wonderful ambassador he is for the game.

Zaheer Abbas 02 Sep 2026
Cheltenham Cricket Society’s 2026/27 season got off to a memorable start with a very special evening in the company of Pakistan and Gloucestershire legend Zaheer Abbas.
Interviewed by Matt Thacker, Zaheer shared fascinating and insightful stories from his extraordinary career – from his early days growing up in Pakistan, International cricket with Pakistan and in Kerry Packer’s World Series and finally thirteen highly successful seasons with Gloucestershire.
A wonderfully engaging evening concluded with a lively Q&A, followed by an appearance from Zaheer’s wife, Sameena, who provided a warm and entertaining insight into his life today.

Welcome
Cheltenham Cricket Society (CCS) was founded in 1983 to promote meetings with guest speakers and other activities of interest for like minded cricket lovers in the Cheltenham and surrounding areas.
About Us
Cheltenham Cricket Society is one of around 30 cricket societies affiliated to the Cricket Societies’ Association.
6 or 7 Guest speaker meetings are arranged for each season running from October through to April for the benefit of members. The meetings are held on the evening of the first Wednesday of the month starting at 7:30pm with doors opening at 6:45pm. The Victory Club in Cheltenham has been the host venue since 2001.
A “Summer Special” is often arranged. The most recent one was an evening with Zaheer Abbas in September 2026.
